What exactly is compote? A must have recipe!

All my fellow health and fitness enthusiasts, here’s something that may please your sweet tooth.

So, compote is basically a desert but it can also serve the purpose of preserves or jams. Even though traditionally, it has sugar in it and you know me, I don’t do sugar… So, here’s a way healthier version: what I’ve made. What makes mine healthier? No refined sugarrrrrr!!!! Really.

This one comes with health benefits. This is so low on sugar and it doesn’t have fat.

It’s low calorie, rich in fibre, folate, potassium and vitamin C.

You can add a spoonful of this to your:

  • breads as spreads
  • oatmeals
  • granola
  • have a spoonful as is
  • on pancakes & waffles

It takes a bit of time to cook (more than a hour). So, make it at home and enjoy a simplified and way healthier version of jam/compote/preserve (recipe below).

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of washed and cut strawberry and raspberry.
  • 1 cup of water.
  • 1 tablespoon of honey.

Method:

  • Blend the berries in water until they are smooth.
  • Save the seedy pulp and put it on the stove to boil.
  • Keep stirring, after couple of minutes (it tends to rise up, so be careful).
  • Once the water starts drying out, add the tablespoon of honey to it (no more is needed, trust me, because, fruits caramelize and release their own sugar).

And that’s it. Let it cool and store. It can be consumed, when refrigerated for up to 10 days.
